Chaska Town Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Chaska, Minnesota.
The Town Golf Course first opened for play in 1997. The course was designed by Arthur Hills.
The course sprawls over 285 acres of oak groves, open prairie, and marshlands. Lush bent grass covers the playing area from the tee box to green.
Chaska Town Course is owned and operated by the City of Chaska. Prior to opening in 1997, then-Mayor Bob Roepke emphasized Chaska's commitment to quality golf, "Our vision is that Chaska will be home to both the best private (Hazeltine National) and the best public courses in Minnesota." The St. Paul Pioneer Press in reviewing the Town Course confirmed that commitment, "Chaska has the feel of a Hazeltine spill-over course; ... tough enough to be used in conjunction with the nearby Hazeltine National for some big-time, big-field event that requires more than one course." That vision has become a reality for Chaska as Hazeltine National Golf Club and Chaska Town Course co-hosted the United States Amateur in 2006. Golf Guide Minnesota's review of the Town Course resulted in headlining it's August 1997 issue with, "Chaska redefines municipal courses."
Chaska, is a very good muni, and not as inexpensive as munis go. It's a tough design, no matter which tees of the 6 tee box choices you choose. Eeven though it's mostly open, you need to plot your way around the course to score well. Well bunkered, water in play on only a few holes, and a nice change of pace with open holes, and tree-lined fairways. From the back tees, it's 6,817 yards, 73.8-course rating, and slope of 140. There are houses in play, lining some of the holes, which takes a wee bit away from the overall experience. This course is not for the high handicapper.
